Allotment

Action consisting in splitting a batch of goods during the preparation of an order

Basic unit

Expression designating any article or object that can be identified with a barcode. For example : 1 bottle of mineral water

Click and collect

The «click and collect» consists in buying a product on the Internet and to come to recover it directly in the physical point of sale of the store

Complex logistics unit

Logistics unit composed of several standard logistics units. These can be of different natures.

Co-packing

The process of grouping products in the same package. These are usually different products.

Cross docking

Logistical process that consists of delivering a grouping point of products that will be broken down to form batches to be delivered directly to the final recipient without going through the storage stage in a warehouse.

 Depalletize

Action consisting of unloading and unpacking packages and/or products placed on a pallet.

EDI

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) means the automatic exchange of standardized electronic documents between two trading partners, computer to computer.

GTIN (Global Trade Item Numbers)

The GTIN is an item code that uniquely identifies any commercial unit at the international level. This code meets the international standards issued by the GS1 organization and can take the form of different types of barcodes such as EAN8, UCC12, EAN13, EAN14, UPC-A, UPC-E, etc...

Product or commodity with distinctive characteristics (synonym: Reference)

Kitting

Logistical activity that consists of grouping elements to compose a product in a package, called « kit ».

KPI (Key Indicator Performance)

Performance indicators are financial, technical, social, marketing, logistical or other information that can be used to establish a diagnosis of the activity and ultimately to measure the performance of a company.

 Logistic unit

The logistic unit is a combination of a logistic support (uniquely identified by an SSCC) and products that are uniquely identified with barcodes. For example, a pack of 6 bottles of mineral water, a pallet of 100 bottles of mineral water

Massification

An approach that consists in grouping several goods in order to organize a smaller number of transports.

Order line

Part of the order indicating the quantity requested of a specific reference

Packing

The packing corresponds to the setting item of an order in a package for its forwarding.

Piggyback Mailing

Action which consists in inserting an advertising document (brochure, leaflet, flyer...) for a company A in the mailings made by a company B.

SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code)

The SSCC is an 18-digit code that meets international GS-1 standards and uniquely identifies a shipping unit.

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

The stock keeping unit (SKU) also called consumer sales unit (CSU) is a unique product code used in inventory management. There is no standard format for SKUs.

Slotting

Process of optimizing storage locations in a warehouse according to the nature of the goods stored and the handling operations they will require.

Stock in transit

Temporary stock awaiting a logistical operation (loading for delivery, transitory situation of management of the warehouse for example between the reception of goods and their deposit in their storage place).

Third-party logistics (3PL)

Logistics service provider to whom a company (principal) decides to outsource its logistics functio

Unbundling

The action of separating previously joined elements.
